Charly Stockl’s love of both painting & furniture originally came together out of necessity. After leaving college, where he majored in Fine Arts, money was scarce and furnishing his first apartment required some creative solutions. Starting with some hand-me-downs and thrift shop purchases he added paints and a passion was born. He started reading about painted furniture and faux finishing, practicing & experimenting on his own furniture. He has since studied with noted decorative artists, Kathleen Loe of Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Kelly S. King of Kelly S. King Academy, Dean Sickler of Dundean Studios & Bob Marx of The Finishing School.
Charly has also had many years of experience in the Interior Design field where he has learned much about color and design as it applies to furniture and interiors. He has completed many commissions and thoroughly enjoys working with clients to create unique and one-of-a-kind pieces. His furniture can be found in homes in Pennsylvania, New Jersey & New York as well as Colorado & California. His work has been exhibited in numerous juried shows & galleries including The Philadelphia Furniture Show; The Manaynuk Arts Festival; Lannon’s Gallery, Bryn Mawr, PA; The Medici Gallery, Philadelphia, PA & Just Around the Corner Fine Art & Craft Gallery, Easton, PA.
In a world that has become increasingly ‘throw away’, Charly finds further satisfaction in his work because it is a form of recycling. And also because of his environmental concerns, he uses only water soluble paints and finishes which do not adversely affect the atmosphere yet dry to a very durable, usable finish.
